As the calendar page turns to October, I feel my hands clench tighter as I brace myself for the chaos that typically ensues during this month. The hustle & bustle of wrapping up the first quarter at school, the preparation for the long-awaited holidays, the changing of the seasons… it all begins in October. Even my overwhelming love of Fall & Pumpkin Spice Lattes can’t keep away the dread that comes with this month. I look forward to Halloween just because it marks the end of it all.

This time, I have decided it will be different.

At church yesterday, Chris Caine spoke an incredible message. She pointed out that we usually look at our lives in the matters of that which is never enough. We see the lack of resources — time, education, money, jobs, etc. — & curse what we have as “not enough” instead of blessing that which God could use for a miracle.

Instead of cursing October as the month of chaos with too much to do & too little time, the 31 days in between the season of new school years & the season of magical holidays… I hereby dedicate the trapped & dreaded days of October as my month of Thank-tober. During the next thirty-one days, I will learn how to bless the “never enough” that I have. I will choose to be thankful for all that God has provided for me even during the long, hard days. I refuse to let the chaos & busyness of this season in my life keep me from allowing God to use me right where I am.
